Duperr was born in La Rochelle to Jean Augustin Duperr, counselor of the king and financer for war, and MarieGabrielle PratDesprez. He spent a few years with the Oratory of Saint Philip Neri at the Collge de Juilly, before enlisting aton the Henri IV, a French East Indiaman.
